The amazing Lois! ....by Arlene

Isn't Grandma Lois amazing.........!!!!
In addition to now being a blogger..some of my recent observations about my Mom...the amazing Lois!

The stake president invited each ward to prepare and take 200 family names to the temple….Mom thought it was for each PERSON…to get 200 ready. She has diligently worked and has 200 names…her by herself..MOM at 81!

She has learned PAF on the computer and has over 2500 names entered. She has genealogy in her head. She knows names and dates and places. When we found a new website on the Hilterbrands she started to read and said…no that should be the 18th of November not the 8th – like that. She has it in her smart smart head! (If computers had come on the scene in ‘her’ day she would be a programmer or some amazing thing!)

She goes to the temple with names. She is serious about doing her part. Helping baptize for Dad the people he is teaching. They are a team – still….working on both sides of the veil.

She is the Visiting Teaching supervisor for her ward. She has learned Microsoft Word and keeps track of all the sisters on the computer. She has tackled and learned that computer. Makes her mad…and more determined when she can’t so something. She is so hard on herself and so driven to learn new things and figure it out.

Her ward has the highest Visiting Teaching in the stake. She is determined to keep it that way. She has three visiting teaching routes – her regular one and helps two struggling visiting teachers learn and do theirs. She is always done with VT by the 5th of the month. Any sisters missed….she just goes and visits! If she hears a Visiting Teacher is out of town and hasn’t done their Visiting Teaching she does it….so that sister won’t be missed.

She is productive…this year: 60 potato bags, knit hats for every grandchild and great…plus humanitarian. Probably 75 or 100!

She also gave us girls our Christmas….which was SIX quilts each. Can you believe it? A beautiful hand made ‘harvest quilt’ and a ‘flower quilt’ in addition to 'cheater' quilts and tied baby quilts. She has also made 3 big wedding quilts, 4 ‘second’ baby quilts, 10 pillows, 2 complicated pieced tops. Think on that!

She is faithfully reading her Book of Mormon before the end of the year. She follows the prophet.

She does an exercise routine in bed everyday before she gets up.

She is diligent in morning and evening prayers…for all her posterity! Every child, grandchild – by name. How many people do you know have prayers offered everyday in their behalf? Think about your work place or school....are their people there that never have someone thinking about them when speaking with the Lord?

She donates to tithing, generous fast offering, humanitarian, ‘other’, Primary Children’s hospital, and family members in need ie to Scott, Merrills grandson, and Jed, and Kade. She lives on a nickel and is so tight with herself and then gives it to others. The most important things in the world is NOT things. Remember Mom lost $260,000 to FAC….imagine losing that much retirement!?!? Imagine losing that much at any season in your life?
Her ward had a blanket Sunday. (A day for members to bring blankets to put in the box for humanitarian) Mom said…I took a pretty quilt and there were only two other blankets in the box. Why didn’t people bring blankets for blanket Sunday?

When the paper comes around in Relief Society to sign up to bring whatever for whatever…Mom signs!

Mom goes faithfully to the temple every month (thanks Barb for going with her).

WHEW……….Mom - Grandma - is amazing. We can all count ourselves very fortunate to have this as our legacy.
I love you Mom - we are so lucky to have you as our example - Mom - Grandma - Great-grandma!
